Course Description

Focuses on ways teachers use technology to teach K-12 students.

Pre-requisites

This class is open to CI graduate students only. Non-enrolled CI students may register for this class through Open University Links to an external site..

Student Learning Outcomes

As a result of completing this class, students will be able to:

  1. Recognize the ways in which they learn best and how this influences their teaching, especially with regard to teaching with technology.
  2. Teach others how to use computers and different computer applications.
  3. Analyze use of and identify appropriate uses of technology as a tool to achieve desired teaching and learning goals (technology means various types of computers, peripherals, technology using the Internet, computer applications, and assistive devices).
  4. Evaluate and model appropriate use of copyright, fair use standards, and principles of Universal Design for Learning.
  5. Use and be able to teach students how to use the Internet as an effective research tool.
  6. Create and use multimedia to support teaching and learning using a variety of technologies.
  7. Analyze different approaches to teaching using online and other distributed (also known as distance) forms of education (such as video conferencing, synchronous & asynchronous discussions, learning management systems).
  8. Develop and maintain a basic professional portfolio website.
  9. Critique the effectiveness of how they and other use technology as a teaching tool.
