STEAM FAMILY EVENT OVERVIEW

The Service Learning STEAM Family Event will take place this Wednesday, April 19th!

The STEAM event will be held at Sierra Linda Elementary School

Parking: There are 2 parking lots. There is a small one in front of the school and a large one to the right of it. Also, can park in the neighborhood. Go to the main office. The School Manager, Rosanna will be able to direct you to the cafeteria area. The STEAM event will take place primarily in the cafeteria and quad area.

Haley will be working at the registration table, providing photography, and helping as needed.

Wear comfortable but, appropriate attire, as we are representing CI. Also, make sure to bring a notebook and pen to write the observations for your learning stories assignment.

Agenda:

3:30-4:30 Annie, Haley and two other students will arrive to unload cars. We will start to set up activities and stuff bags with STEM booklet and bilingual book. The School made copies of the bilingual STEM booklet and have provided one bilingual children's book which can be found in the booklet for the families. Each family will receive a bag, STEM booklet, and children's bilingual book.

4:30-5:00 All students need to arrive promptly no later than 4:30PM. You will need to sign in, help finish set up, and receive instructions on STEAM activities. Team Leaders: will be responsible for overseeing activity, ensure each student has equal time to write observation for learning stories, communicate if problems arise to Annie or Haley, and to ensure accurate packing of tub at end of the STEAM Event.

5:00-5:30 Pre-service learning reflection. I will facilitate group reflection questions (hand out with questions will be provided)

5:15-5:20 Oxnard Public Librarian, Vanessa Chua will arrive and set up table with Library resources.

5:30 Family sign in: Haley and one of the Spanish Translation student will work registration table and distribute bags and ask for photographic release. Name tags will be distributed. Will be worn on back of shirt. Any child or parent who does not want to be photographed for the learning story, name tag will state this!

Welcome children and parents/guardians by Annie and Sierra Linda Elementary Principal, Carmen Serrano
Librarian, Vanessa Chua and Spanish Translation student will read the children's book that the families will receive

5:40-7:00 Children and parents participate in STEAM Activities. Spanish Translation students will be assigned to STEM activity tables to help with translation

7:00-7:10 Team Leader ensures student clean up and correct packing of tubs

7:10-7:30 Post reflection & feedback- Annie and Dr. Jimenez-Jimenez will facilitate with students (I will provide service learning post reflection handout)

7:30- 7:45 Students help load cars and provide any remaining clean up

Oxnard Public Library

Librarian, Vanessa Chua will bring additional bilingual books to read during the STEAM event
Spanish Translation student will help translate book and read together with Vanessa, both at the beginning and also throughout the STEAM event time
Librarian will bring information about library cards and resources available at the library
Goal to provide information to families about Oxnard Public Library resources
