Course Description:

First QLT Objective Showcased

Section 2: Assessment of Online Learning
- 2.1 All Student Learning Objectives/Outcomes (SLOs) are specific, well-defined, and measurable.

Description of QLT Course Design

For this course, I created seven specific Student Learning Objectives which are directly tied to the overall goals of the course. Additionally, for two of the modules, I have articulated specific learning outcomes which are linked back to the overall course Student Learning Outcomes. The module learning outcomes incorporate specific terms from Bloom's Taxonomy and also directly link to the learning activities students will complete as part of the module.

The second screenshot below is from the Module 2 Overview page, which includes the Learning Objectives for this module. As you can see, each Module Learning Objective lists the corresponding Course Student Learning Objective.

Section 2: Assessment of Online Learning
- 2.4: The assessment instruments (e.g., rubrics, grading sheets) are detailed and appropriate to the student work and respective outcomes being assessed. This includes assessing modes of online participation and contributions.

Description of QLT Course Design

Because this course is a course focused on developing students as writers, the key assignments will be written. That said, for each major assignment, students will be provided with a specific rubric which aligns with the goals of the assignment. The example below comes from the first major assignment students will complete: a proposal of what two major writing pieces they will take through multiple drafts in the course, along with the rubric I will use to assess this assignment. The Assignment Objective includes the Module Objective, showing students the link between the assignment and the goals for this module. Additionally, the criteria listed in the rubric (Academic Texts, Overall Plan, and Obstacles & Support) align with the listed Writing Proposal Requirements, again making it easy for students to see the link between how they are being assessed and what they are being asked to do.

Having the rubric prior to beginning the assignment will allow students to ensure that what they write for the proposal meets my expectations of them for this assignment.
